Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to help you prepare for your journey to Machu Picchu.
Do I need to bring my passport?
Yes. It is absolutely mandatory to bring your original, physical passport. You will not be allowed to board the train or enter the Machu Picchu citadel without it.
Are there baggage limits on the train?
Yes. The train companies strictly limit passengers to one small bag or backpack weighing no more than 5kg/11lbs. We recommend leaving your large luggage securely at your Cusco hotel and bringing only what you need for the overnight stay.
What should I pack for the 2 days?
Machu Picchu is located in the cloud forest, meaning the weather can be warm, humid, or rainy. Pack a change of clothes for the overnight stay, insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat, comfortable walking shoes, and a light rain jacket or poncho.
