Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to help you prepare for your Andean adventure.

How difficult is this hike?

The hike is classified as moderate. The trail requires walking uphill to reach the Racaypata ruins at 3,550m, so a reasonable level of physical fitness is required, along with proper acclimatization to the altitude prior to starting.

Can I swim in the Perolniyoc Waterfall?

While the crystal-clear waters are inviting, they come directly from the high mountain glaciers and are extremely cold. You can certainly get close to feel the refreshing mist, but full swimming is generally too cold for most travelers.

What should I pack for the day?

Bring a comfortable daypack, good trail shoes, a warm waterproof jacket, a sun hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and plenty of drinking water. Do not forget your camera for the incredible waterfall and ruins!
