How difficult is the hike to Inti Punku?
This hike is considered challenging. While it is a full-day tour, the ascent is steady and steep, gaining significant altitude. You should be in good physical condition and used to active walking or hiking. We take a steady pace with plenty of stops to appreciate the views and acclimatize.
What is the altitude of Inti Punku?
The Sun Gate stands at approximately 3,900 meters (12,795 feet) above sea level. This is higher than Cusco. Acclimatization is essential. We recommend spending at least two days at altitude in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before attempting this hike.
What should I bring for the hike?
We recommend bringing strong, broken-in hiking boots, a small backpack, warm layers (Andean weather changes quickly), a waterproof jacket, a sun hat, sunscreen, high-energy snacks, and at least 2-3 liters of water. Trekking poles can be very helpful for the descent.
